Meridians and Disease Prevention: A New Perspective of Life

October 23, 2017

Today we experience a great deal of stress from our day to day lives, whether physically or mentally. Stress can lead to stagnation of Chi and blockage of energy flow. At this level, there may not be measurable signs of illness. The result is some people may have the experience of feeling unwell with a medical report showing nothing wrong with them. This is so called sub-health state in TCM. It is a state in which unbalanced energy hasn’t yet manifest physically in a serious way. Symptoms such as fatigue, headache, mood swings, insomnia, depression, palpitation, digestive issues may be observed. If left untreated, it may slowly manifest in different organs or at the body part of related energy channels. For example, liver channel problem can cause liver, eyes, nails, tendons , reproduction, skin, and mental issues. Kidney channel problem can cause lower back, knee, bone, vision, hair, hearing and reproductive issues (consult with our practitioners for more information). At this level, knots or nodules on certain meridian channels may be found upon palpation. These knots are often the result of muscle tissues adhesion, from the anatomical point of view. They slow down the flow of Chi and Blood which cause pain and reduce range of motions. They may also be found at the bottom of one’s feet, where foot reflexology comes into play.

Acupuncture works directly on these knots (points of hard, tender, sore or discoloration). The penetration of filiform needles will cut loose the adhesion (knots). Once the knots are reduced, related symptoms or discomfort will diminish. Acupuncture is suitable for a wide ranges of diseases, including but not limited to asthma, bronchitis, common cold, high blood pressure, depression, insomnia, headache, eczema, smoking addiction, tinnitus, stroke, vertigo, chronic/acute pain, MS, shingles, epilepsy, facial paralysis, infertility, dysmenorrhea, age rejuvenation etc. Such results are supported by numerous research paper published worldwide. Although putting needles into one’s body may sound discouraging to some people, in fact, the result is more prominent in a lot of cases, especially in acute pain. Some people even find that it provides satisfying stimulation to the body more than any other treatment modalities. It follows the principle of respecting and treating the body as a holistic being with physicality, energy, emotion and soul. It works based on the principles: treat disease before it happens.
